The summer does not just come with the holiday atmosphere, cherries and perfect temperatures for the beach and ice cream, but also with sunset and photographed sunsets. If you plan to spend some sunset in the camera company, we recommend below some tricks that will help you get good photo frames.
For starters, it’s important to keep in mind what the photos call “magic classes”. These refer to the two types of light that precede, respectively the sunset - “golden” and “blue”.
“The golden hour” is the interval before sunset (about 30-60 minutes before full sunshine) when the sun is at an angle of about 6 degrees above the horizon line. The light in this range is a gentle, diffuse one that gives the subjects a golden aura and creates long shadows. The “blue hour” is the range of about 30-60 minutes that succeeds the sunset, at the twilight. The light of this period has predominantly blues notes so the images become colder.
The time horizon you can get the most out of these lights can easily be found on a site dedicated to “magic hours” - or using a mobile application such as Exsate Golden Hour.
Western photography is equally spectacular and complex, mainly due to the short time it takes to find the right topics, locations, time and technique.
# 1: EXPLORES LOCATIONS
Given the short time available for sunset photography, it’s important to know where you’ll be putting your “camp” on the day. Spend a little during the day and choose the lens or landscape you want, also evaluating some shooting angles or composition options.
# 2: STILL FIRST PLAN
Surely the spectacular colors of the sky at sunset are the basic element of your future photographs, but it does not make you tempted to think that they are sufficient for a strong photo. Choose the element you’ll include at the forefront of the image in time to add atmosphere and depth. It can be a tree, a statue, a building or a person, whatever inspires you, and makes a pleasant connection with the dramatic background of the sunset.
# 3: PHOTOGRAPH RAW
A very important rule because the RAW format will then allow for a much wider image processing. Your composition will capture a wide range of lights and shadows along with powerful colors, so you’ll need flexibility in balancing their nuances and intensities. In addition, RAW shooting gives you freedom in adjusting the white balance without losing image quality.
# 4: FOCUS TO SOURCE
We know, it’s a golden rule not to point the camera to the sun. Although it is a delicate approach, as the image may be unbalanced by lens flares, it is worthwhile to practice - the right angle will bring you strong, contoured, vibrant shots as the light gets caught.
# 5: TEST THE EFFECT “STARBURST”
The Starburst effect is a photo technique that involves using the smallest aperture and direct sunlight photography. The result is a pleasant highlight of light rays. The recommended settings for this effect are f / 20 - f 22.
# 6: CALLS TO THE DIAPHRAGMA PRIORITIZATION OPTION
When using the camera in full manual mode gives you headaches and eventually slows down during shooting, a solution that’s worth testing is selecting Aperture Priority Mode (APM). To obtain the calibrated images under fluctuating light conditions (such as those at sunset), you can try setting the ISO value to 100 and the aperture between f /9 - f/11. A modern device set to APM mode automatically adjusts the aperture speed (shutter speed).
# 7: STAY ON A TREPIED
It may seem like a banal tip, but it often seems too complicated to pull out the tripod and put the device in the desired direction and we rely on the stability of our own hands. In the case of sunset photographs, we strongly recommend that you use a tripod. Light conditions, exposure time, and continuous ISO adjustment need precision to produce valuable images.
# 8: USE A REMOTE DEVICE
Or a sets a 2 second delay before shooting. Any movement may affect the clarity and overall image quality as a result of the fluctuating conditions mentioned above (light, exposure time).
# 9: LOOKS FORWARD TO THE END OF “BLACK EYE”
Do not abandon as soon as the sun disappears below the horizon. The next 5-10 minutes of this time offer incredible colors and incredible light tones.
# 10: SEARCH REFLEXES IN THE URBAN LANDSCAPE
If you photograph the sunset in the city, buildings that block visibility often appear. What you can do to take advantage of the sunset and get really interesting effects is to look for facades that reflect light . Not only will you capture the special sunset light, but you will also get sensational effects that can not be replicated in a natural landscape.
