Seaside holiday with your camera

We will not hold you long, we know you can expect to pack everything up so that you can quickly reach a sunny beach and hear the salty sound of the waves. So we’re just telling you a few practical tips for seafront photos and we expect you to come back with them, ready for a new travel photobook :)

We start with things that belong to your baggage.
Photo equipment also need a protection factor and that means you should pack at least some of the following items for your photo camera:

-protective bag, preferably doubled by a plastic cover so that the sand stays on the beach, not in the compartments of the bag
-polarization filter - your camera’s sunglasses that reduce the flare effect and amplify the nuances of water and sky
-circular reflector - a foldable sun visor to direct the strong light as you wish. In addition, you can mount and pack it easily, without adding to the total luggage weight
-external battery - you might forget to recharge or simply spend so much time on your beach so you have unpleasant surprises with your device’s battery. You can prevent photo loss with an extra battery

And now let’s just talk a little about your photographic cadres:

• try to capture the joy of the people around you when they run, throw themselves in the waves, play. Use the Manual (M) mode of the camera and set the shutter speed to at least 1/500 seconds to “freeze” the snapshot. For a greater depth of field, f /8 -f/ 16 aperture values are used
• shots happenings on the beach using burst mode. This way you will surely catch key moments. Just make sure that if the water is in the background of the image, you have aligned the frame horizontally at this point
• avoid harsh shadows in portraits, often caused by light intensity. This is where your good friend, the circular reflector, will intervene. If you do not have it at your fingertips, try zooming as close as possible to the faces of your photos and focusing will adjust the shadow level a little
• shooting in black and white, the contrast given by strong light will create great impact, even dramatic according to specialists :)
• do not forget that there is also interesting fauna in the beaches area. The flying of a seagull or the tug of a small crayfish on the sand line can be very suggestive for your visit to the sea
• experience the moments of the day and the light specific to each one. More specifically, take advantage of sunrise and sunset to get different effects in images. I’ve detailed the tricks for the sunset in this article
